Our Focus is What “You Need to Know”
The Four reasons the dental profession generally fails the public…
- Dental providers do not teach that Dental Problems are nearly, completely preventable, yet they are rampant.
- Dentist providers do not take the time to teach that virtually ALL dental disease comes from one simple question…(that even first graders can understand) BACTERIA eat SUGAR and excrete (poop) ACID for 40 minutes.
- Dental providers rarely take the time to perform the most important procedure they can provide a patient. It’s the first thing every Dentist and Hygienist are taught to do for a patient, yet very rarely done.
- Dental providers rarely take the time to teach the very basics of Plaque, Tarter, Gingivitis & Gum Disease.
The Difference here is Patient Education. We focus on our patients learning these seven things.
- Dental problems are nearly, completely preventable and what a patient does on a daily basis at home is by far the most critical factor for dental health.
- Virtually ALL Dental Disease comes from this simple equation…
- BACTERIA + SUGAR = ACID…
- more effectively stated..
- Bacteria EAT Sugar and POOP Acid for 40 Minutes
- BACTERIA: (it’s also called Plaque) it’s the sticky, gooey stuff that forms everyday at the gumline and between the teeth. To remove it you don’t have to brush or floss hard, you just have to gently, thoroughly clean the gumline area 360 degrees around each tooth…the floss actually is better at this than the brush, but you must do both. Water piks and rinses are overrated, it’s just like syrup left on a plate or mud on the side of a car. You can spray water on it all day and a film is still there until you add a gentle brushing and the rest comes off.
It takes 24 hours for the bacteria to grow to damage capable colony size. So, you really only need to clean your teeth once a day. BUT the problem is…most Americans brush 2-3 times a day but do not floss…and of course, have endless problems. Brush and floss one time each day. If you brush in the morning, absolutely floss first at night…if you had a long day and are going to skip something at night, skip the second brushing, NOT the one flossing.
- SUGAR: it doesn’t matter how much you eat…what matters is how often it enters your mouth. Every time you eat any sugar the bacteria instantly begin producing acid and keep it up for 40 minutes, even though it may have only been a sip or nibble (straws won’t help, it’s microscopic, every bacteria gets dinner when any sugar enters your mouth). Solution: since frequency is what matters, all kids and adults should have all the sugar they want at meal time…so, any soda, juice, baked goods, treats, cereal, desserts, candy should all be had at mealtime allowing one acid cycle to take place rather than many. Between meals, only water or diet or sugar free beverages, sugar free gum, or sugar free snacking. HOWEVER, if sweets are eaten between meals…One Time!…eat the treat or drink the beverage in 5 minutes and be done with it. DON’T SIP AND NIBBLE YOUR WAY TO DECAY!
- ACID-eats away at tooth structure
- causes cavities
- causes red, puffy, bleeding gums
- causes bone to melt away
- Gingivitis: is…red, puffy gums that bleed easy. Your cheek tissue should be red, your gums should be pink right up to the tooth with no redness near the teeth. Healthy gums do not bleed! Red Puffy Gums that bleed easily is reversible..with bacteria removal and control of sugar frequency.
- Gum Disease: is…when you have red puffy gums that bleed easily for a long time the Acid also irritates the bone and it melts away. This is not reversible and yes, we really should call gum disease bone disease.
